The third installment of The Mummy franchise has failed to beat Batman to the top of the U.K. box office charts.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor debuted at number two following its opening weekend in Britain (beg09-10Aug08), taking $5.8 million (GBP2.8 million) in its first seven days.
Batman sequel The Dark Knight clung on to the top spot for a third week, taking more than $8 million ($4 million) in the same time frame.
Abba movie musical Mamma Mia! slipped to number three with earnings of $5.4 million (GBP2.7 million), while fourth and fifth places were taken by Wall-e ($2.8 million/GBP1.4 million) and new entry Make It Happen ($1.1 million/GBP505,820) respectively.
The latest Mummy film, starring Brendan Fraser, was also kept off the top spot in the North American box office chart by The Dark Knight.
It took $42.5 million (GBP22.3 million) in its opening weekend (02-03Aug08), while The Dark Knight movie made $43.8 million (GBP23 million).
